Abstract: In the article the author discusses an everlasting conflict between “poor slave” and “unconquerable lord” inherent to humankind. Tropes and images, wich reveal the conflict in the heart of the poem’s poetic world (an image of the antiar as “poisonous tree”); a sound arrangement of the poem; the contrast and similarity between “poor slave” and “unconquerable lord” are in the spotlight of the article. Besides, the author analizes the vtaning of the poem, wich is in Pushkin’s rejection of despotism and slavery as weapons of death.
