Abstract: The article is investigating the active approach of mastering the genre with «I am surrounded by world» method. The article is also exploring the significance of literature knowledge in literature teaching process of 5–6 grade students. A competent reader is supposed to understand the laws of artistic creativity and the laws of aesthetic functionality of genres in particular. N. L. Leiderman‘s genre theory as a figurative «model of the world» is a philological foundation of the method concerned. The active approach allows to present theoretical knowledge in a functional way, thus making this knowledge an instrument for understanding a piece of art and for co-authorship as well (when a student creates his own piece of art using a genre model). The methods of such work and its effectiveness for student‘s personal development are demonstrated with examples of odes, idylls and elegies.
