SILENCE AS A MARKER OF AGGRESSIVE SPEECH BEHAVIOR (CASE STUDY OF DAY-TO-DAY COMMUNICATION)

Abstract: Speech aggression is one of the most frequent subjects of modern linguistic research. Due to the analysis of various discursive practices in Communication science the main relevant attributes of this type of speech behavior have been marked out. Implementation of verbal aggression in day-to-day communication is of particular interest, especially where silence fulfils this function along with the verbalized implementation of aggression. Situatedness of day-to-day discourse and involvement of participants in a wide context make it possible to elicit the communicative potential of silence to the utmost. Silence as a multidimensional communicative sign can fulfill various functions in speech interaction. This research analyzes silence as a verbal act, a minimal unit of speech behavior. The method of linguistic observation over communication at socially significant sites of the city of Izhevsk marked out dialogues with a predominantly aggressive type of speech behavior. The communicative scenario analysis of the subject and the object of speech enabled the authors of this article to describe silence as a specific zero aggression marker capable of implementing various communicative tasks of communicators.
