Abstract: The article explores the principles of studying the methods of text analysis at the university: the principle of practical orientation, the principle of goal-setting and analysis targeting, the principle of methods complementation, the principle of scientific paradigms exposure. In formulating these principles the author takes into account the essential crossing zones in goals, methods and principles of the text analysis in the framework of some academic disciplines of linguistic character. The scientifically accepted diversity of approaches to the text analysis is also reckoned. The principle of practical orientation presupposes that the methods are studied at practice, the whole small prototype text is used as the material for analysis. The principle of goal-setting and analysis targeting means the concentration at definite goals and aims. The principles of methods complementation and scientific paradigms exposure consists in the text analysis with the help of a variety of methods, taking into account the possibilities of different scientific paradigms. On the basis of the prototype text’s analysis of the recipe genre the author shows the possibilities of the above-mentioned principles’ implementation. The author proves that the same text can be logically analyzed in the framework of structural and semantic, functional, cognitive and discursive, communicative and pragmatic paradigms. The following methods are used at that: observation, description, stylistic experiment, comparison, communicative and pragmatic method, the method of polysystemic analysis, the methodology of the text analysis based on the notions “prototype text” and “text prototype”. The method of contextual analysis is also discussed. It is aimed at the explication of the process of the text’s meaning formation and its interpretation based on the language and speech means, language and extra-language knowledge of different levels. Two directions of analysis are possible at that: the movement from the minimal to the supertext context and the text analysis taking into account the whole supertext context. The possibilities of the latter are shown on the basis of a short story by I. Bunin “Piglets”. It is proved that such an approach lets form the students’ competencies which involve the awareness of the mechanisms of the text’s meaning interpretation.
