Abstract: The study aims at solving an issue that is relevant for modern literature studies, such issue is the recreation of Nikolai Karamzin’s public, every day and literary relations, recreation bases on documentary data. The paper focuses on the subject “Nicolai M. Karamzin and the Arzamas members” in the aspect of personal relations of historiographer with the “Arzamas Society of Unknown People”, who was in his inner circle, and the study aims to define the significance of the Arzamas context in this relations. The paper systemizes research approaches studying the “Arzamas Society” activity. Based on the epistolary heritage and Arzamas’works, the features of Karamzin’s image that are significant for the ideology of “Arzamas” are characterized. The author determines the members of Arzamas closest to the historiographer and traces the history of the relationship between Karamzin and the Arzamas during the existence of society and after its collapse. The article proves that Nikolai Karamzin had his own Arzamas plot, and he reflected this plot in the letters of his life in the last decade. The interpenetration of Arzamas and friendship contexts characterize this Arzamas plot. Also on the basis of epistolary legacy and Arzamas’writings, the author characterizes Karamzin’s image transmitted by the Arzamas members. This image reflected his social and creative reputation and was significant for the “Society” ideology. The paper concludes that the history of Karamzin’s relations with each member of Arzamas cannot be considered without taking into account the Arzamas context, since it leaves its mark on real relationships, on the interpretation of events by context participants.
