Abstract: The article presents a review of the Siberian Meteorological Dictionary compiled by talented researchers V. P. Vasiliev and E. V. Vasilyeva (Kemerovo, Kemerovo State University), which implements the idea of synthesizing the traditional summarized lexicographic description of dialect units and the approaches of the modern culturally and cognitively oriented theory of language. The dictionary of this glossary includes dialect names – “meteonyms”, as well as semantically related words and stable expressions. The dictionary presents a detailed analysis of speech contexts (dialect texts) that implement the collected meteonyms in the real everyday speech of dialect users, which makes it possible to interpret a separate atmospheric phenomenon (“rain”) chosen by the authors of the dictionary as a particular concept of the dialect worldview of rural residents of Siberia in its entirety and originality, including cultural and evaluative connotations, omens, beliefs, superstitions, etc. Thus, the cultural-cognitive description of the basic meteonym “rain” presented in the Dictionary vividly illustrates new approaches in the field of modern dialect lexicography. A detailed description of the theoretical foundations of the suggested approach is harmoniously combined with a careful analysis of speech contexts reflecting the centuries- old experience of rural man’s interaction with nature.
