Abstract: In recent years, active measures have been introduced in Russian language teaching and learning in Chinese universities to transform the traditional Russian education, paying particular attention to the development of students’ intercultural competence and literacy in the foundations of the humanities. Noticeably, Capital Normal University has taken preventive action in this direction and proposed a culturally-oriented model for training highly qualified specialists in Russian. The essence of the model lies in the focus on the three main components of Russian culture – literature, history and art. Based on this model, training programs are being developed, new textbooks are designed to suit the structure of academic disciplines, and new teams of progressive pedagogues are formed.
