COMPULSORY AND THE ONLY ONE: ENGLISH LANGUAGE IN RUSSIAN SCHOOL: WHAT IS THE COST?

Abstract: This article examines two major consequences of absolute dominance of English in foreign language education for the educational system of modern Russian school: 1) washing out of methodology and its innovation potential from educational development, 2) neglect of the cultural heritage of the Russian language, which essentially traces German and French, but there is practically no layer of the English language, the mass introduction of extraneous elements that could significantly affect the acquisition of the Russian cultural basis. The article reflects many years of experience in the methodology of language education, the practice of teaching foreign languages and its results.
