Abstract: The research object of this paper presents euphony, interpreted as a universal stylistic category, and its opposite, cacophony, presented in contemporary scholarly, methodological, encyclopaedic and linguistic literature and traced in the practice of teaching stylistics to foreign students of Russian Studies. The topic of euphony tightly connects the aforementioned stylistic category and the attributive evaluative characteristic of speech euphonious, which is used in relation to the national language in general as well as to separate texts in it. The controversial nature of the issue lies in the need to apply the criteria of euphony to written and spoken texts of any functional variety. The research methods include interpretation, systemic analysis, cognitive cultural and quantitative methods, which form a complex interdisciplinary whole within the framework of linguistic methodology. The research results reflect the schematic development of the category in society and the importance of its active inclusion in the educational field for developing a linguistic personality and their speech culture. The analysis of the target category in connection with the teaching of Russian to foreign (Slavic) students of Russian Studies points to the demand for knowledge about euphony alongside the practice of identifying and eliminating cacophony. The research results include a generalization of factual material from student seminar papers (written papers on a topic from a study course) and final theses. The results are important for theoretical stylistics, linguistic didactics (in particular for personal development of students of Russian Studies) and the theory of standard language. A conclusion is formulated that euphony is based on a national value system and is reinforced by poetic speech. The teaching practice and experience generalising it demonstrates the importance of knowledge about the euphony of the Russian language for harmonising language education and for the conscious deepening of language / speech culture among students of Russian Studies.
