Abstract: The article presents an analysis of genre trends that determined the nature of the development of the national literary process in the 20th–21st centuries. Based on the established theory of genre, developed in the works of the leading Russian literary critics and presented in the monumental works of N. L. Leiderman, the study examines short and long prosaic forms in the epochs of literary experiment and draws parallels between the processes that determined the logic of genre development in the 1920s and at the turn of the 20th–21st centuries. The article describes the vectors of genre dynamics and the corresponding representative exam-ples of genre models (both canonical and experimental, classical and innovative, created on the basis of the aesthetics of various artistic movements, types of art, and methods of expression). The author makes conclusions about the factors and principles (trans-formation, deformation, etc.) that determine genre dynamics and describes the genre models that develop under the influence of the author’s way of thinking (individual genres, book-albums, etc.).
